Biography: 

G.W. "Pete" Stewart is a Distinguished University Professor Emeritus of computer science in the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies.

He is a leading expert in computational linear algebra, known for his advances in rounding error analysis, eigensystem perturbation, and matrix factorizations. Stewart has developed efficient algorithms for singular value decomposition and matrix factorizations that are widely used in various applications.
